Vineyard and elaboration
Between 1913 and 1914, Don Rafael López de Heredia y Landeta, at the same time as he was laying the foundations for his industrial facilities, planted Viña Tondonia, thus creating the winery's best-known product. Viña Tondonia is a beautiful vineyard of more than 100 hectares, located on the right bank of the river Ebro, where the most typically Riojan grape varieties grow.
Viña Tondonia is the most spectacular vineyard in Haro. Situated in a shell and embraced by the Ebro forming a peninsula, it creates a landscape of alluvium, limestone and poplars.
Winery
In the city of Haro, capital of La Rioja Alta, perhaps where the extraordinary combination of the mild climate and harsh soil is best achieved, we find López de Heredia winery, the oldest one in Haro and one of the first three wineries in La Rioja. The strategic location of its vineyards, the exceptional quality of the plantations, as well as the varieties used, have their essential counterpart in a magnificent winery, whose creation process was similar to planting the vineyards, slowly, with the utmost care.
