Torrijas: A heavenly snack for Easter

The smell of French toast is already noticeable! Easter is here, and with it a wide variety of exquisite food recipes that we have inherited from generation to generation. Savoring a plate of stew or rice, potato or cod, among many others, have become a gastronomic custom during these days of Holy Week.

We want to take advantage of this great culinary variety of Holy Week and prepare some delicious French toast to sweeten these dates. It is one of the easy dessert recipes that we can make this holiday. But we want to go a little further, and use unique and innovative products to make a healthy version and at the same time give our dishes a more avant-garde touch with gourmet products from La Chinata. Put on the apron that we started!



  • 500g of medium strength flour (we can use 450gr and 50g of olive seed flour and whole seeds, to enhance the flavor, extracted from the same olive bone, and give it a different touch).
  • 1 egg
  • 125ml of milk
  • 125ml of water
  • 20 grams of instant baker's yeast
  • 50g of butter
  • 5g of salt. To give it a master touch we can use the flower of salt, although if we want to give a more differentiating flavor we can even use the Persian blue salt , himalayan rose  or hawaiian red.

  • 1 liter of milk
  • a cinnamon stick
  • 100 grams of sugar

French toast bread

  1. First, we will mix the flour with all the ingredients. For the butter, give it a little heat to dissolve it and add it to the mixture. We will use the fleur de sel, which will give a different touch but respecting the flavor of the bread, and mix well so that everything is a homogeneous mass, until it separates from the table, for about 10-15 minutes. Then, let it rest until it doubles in size.
  2. Then knead again! Once done, we will form the loaves of bread for torrijas, about 25 cm long. Let it ferment again and make some cuts. Finally, we paint it with the beaten egg.
  3. We almost have it, now we just have to preheat the oven to 200º. Once preheated, introduce the dough for 15 minutes. The end result should be golden and crunchy, but not as crisp as a conventional loaf.

French toast

Once the special bread for French toast is made, we put a liter of milk in a saucepan with the cinnamon stick and 100 grams of sugar. Heat without letting it boil and turn off the heat. Now it will be necessary to soak the slices of bread well for about 5-10 minutes so that it takes all the flavor.

The last step is to pass the slices of bread with beaten egg on both sides and fry in Extra Virgin Olive Oil and ready to serve!
