O Luar Do Sil

This white wine is 100% made with the Godello variety by Pago de Los Capellanes in the O.D. Valdeorras. The small vineyards on granite slopes express the mineral intensity of the Godello grape. This wine is their most direct elaboration: a faithful reflection of the viticultural landscape and the most expansive and jovial entry of the variety. The result conveys freshness, clarity and life. Its poetic name, O Luar do Sil, reminds us of the charm of the moon in the waters of the Sil, the great river of Valdeorras.

It has a greenish-yellow colour. On the nose, it has notes of ripe stone fruit and flowers, as well as native balsamic vegetables. On the mouth it is fresh, powerful, balanced, unctuous, and of great length.

The recommended serving temperature is between 7º and 10ºC.

Vineyard and elaboration

This wine comes from  old vineyard plots at an altitude of 450 metres in the town of Seadur. Viticulture is developed on deep clay soils and on very fragmented granited rocks. Grape selection is handmade, then grapes are steemed and softly crushed. It is refrigerated at 10ºC and a prefermentative maceration is carried out for 4 to 6 hours, so as to enhance the wine's aromatic component. Fermentation is made in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 16º to 18ºC. Once this process has finnished, part of the fine lees are selected to make a battonage for 2 months. battonage durante 2 meses.


It is a family winery born in the D.O. Ribera del Duero and that was taken care of by the father of the current owner. Centuries ago it was owned by the chaplains of the town. They were the first vitivulturists of the Designation Ribera del Duero and in 1996, they founded the winery at the foot of the vineyards. A third generation later joined Pago de los Capellanes through Estefanía Rodero Villa, daughter of Paco and Conchita. Thanks to her, the winery is guaranteed to belong to the family and new projects in another areas and landscapes can continue. In 2014, they started to elaborate white wines and that is how O Luar do Sil, the second family winery, was born.
