Vineyard and elaboration
This wine comes from volcanic soils of the Orotava Valley in Tenerife. It preserves the traditional braided cordon training system of Tenerife, being part of the landscape heritage of the area, situated in the foothills of the Teide (called medianías). This gives the wines of the Orotava Valley Designation of Origin a special uniqueness.
The wine is made from the Listán negro grape variety from old vines, which are 80 years old. The grapes are harvested manually, in baskets, and the destemming and crushing is gentle.
Fermentation begins spontaneously and takes place in open concrete tanks at a controlled temperature. Once the alcoholic fermentation is finished, the wine is transferred to wooden vats and 500-litre French oak barrels, where malolactic fermentation takes place and the wine ages for 9 months. The blend of both woods is the result of this very special wine.
Bodega Suertes del Marqués
Suertes del Marqués is a family winery where wines first began to be prepared in 2006. Twenty years earlier, they started off as viticulturists selling their grapes to another winery of the Valle de La Orotava Designation.
Keeping respect for tradition in mind, as the winery's ethic commands, in Suertes del Marqués they work with native yeasts, avoiding transfering and using small quantities of sulfurous.
Every process is handmade, from working in the vineyard to harvesting. In the vineyard they avoid systemic treatments and only use natural products when diseases appear.
