Women during pregnancy experience many changes, including changes to their skin, such as the appearance of stretch marks, cellulite, blemishes, and even acne. But it is important to know which cosmetics are suitable during the gestation period and which may be inadvisable for the development of the baby because not all the components are advisable during pregnancy.
There are raw materials that are not recommended for use in pregnant women, such as caffeine, retinol and its derivatives, as well as salicylic acid, camphor and menthol.
Specifically, retinol and vitamin A derivatives can cause malformations in the fetus in the first months of pregnancy, common in anti-aging creams, for example.
On the other hand, caffeine is not advisable either. It is widely used in anti-cellulite creams to deal with orange peel skin and around the eyes, due to its ability to stimulate blood circulation, among other properties, but it is not a recommended component in diet or cosmetics for pregnant women.
In the same way, menthol and camphor, common in lip balms, anti-cellulite and products with a cold effect, among others, are not advisable either.
Cosmetics for pregnant women: Essential oils
Another much broader topic is that of essential oils. Not all are "restricted." In fact, some are not recommended for the first months of pregnancy, others for the entire pregnancy and others are totally harmless. In any case, sometimes it happens that aromatherapy is put in the same bag, where you usually work with pure essential oils, and cosmetics, where the percentages of essential oil are minimal and much lower when applying.
For example, essential oils that should not be used during pregnancy are sage, peppermint, oregano, clove, and rue.
Focusing on the La Chinata cosmetic line, the products that are not recommended for use during pregnancy are:
- The Repairing Lip Balm, as it contains menthol and camphor.
- The Eye Contour, which contains an active ingredient with caffeine.
- The 0% Shampoo, since one of the ingredients of its preservative system is salicylic acid.
For its part, the Facial Serum and some other products such as the Body Oil of the classic line, have essential oil of mandarin, bergamot, grapefruit or geranium. It should be noted that, specifically, geranium is recommended from the fourth month of pregnancy, but in this case, for example, it goes in the Facial Serum and contains less than 0.10%, so it is a minimal amount.
In any case, our laboratories ensure that the types of oils and the very small percentages they contain make them totally harmless. For example, pregnant women can eat oranges or grapefruit and therefore it cannot be harmful to their health or that of their baby to apply a cream with a small percentage of essential oil from that fruit.
On the other hand, for lactation the same criteria are applied as for a pregnant woman.
With all this, during pregnancy, although it is advisable to use products of natural origin and free of toxins, it is necessary to know what are the ingredients with which they are made to avoid those that could harm the development of the baby.
Cosmetics for pregnant women: Abdomen and breasts
The abdomen and breasts are two areas that suffer a lot of tightness and breakage of fibers during pregnancy. The key to caring for this area is to maintain deep and constant hydration, and for this, we recommend the Natural Edition Intensive Regenerating Lotion, very creamy, made with a high percentage of aloe vera and Extra Virgin Olive Oil, as well as beeswax, argan oil, rosehip oil, millet seed extract and olive extract. Also, it reduces skin blemishes.
Similarly, it is recommended to apply Sunscreens High protection to avoid the harmful effects of UVA and UVB rays, which also help prevent the appearance of spots on the skin.
Pamper yourself during pregnancy! And remember that your well-being affects the health of your baby
